The Tribune of the Plebs of the Roman Republic could veto laws that were detrimental to the people. They had one of the riskier jobs available in the political structure.
Here we will object to many of the attempts to restrict the peoples’ ability to choose or protect themselves from the powerful. We have a particular viewpoint, though:
- Things that don’t work shouldn’t be done
- Laws that coerce or limit choices are usually evil, and fail to achieve the desired result
- Laws that liberate are usually good, even when they include the possibility of doing bad things
- A little thinking goes a long way to understanding probable outcomes
Here we will try to use some simple analysis to look at some issues. We try not to have “an ax to grind” and you may find some of our material annoying if you are set in your beliefs and are unwilling to even consider a new perspective.
Stay tuned.
